Zou much more than just a crop top!*

The Zou Playset PDF SEWING PATTERN is a playful nod to the Japanese word for elephant, mixed with a kawaii flair! The Zou Playset features two items in sizes 2T (90cm) to 10Y (140cm) that are perfect for hot summer days:

  • The Zou Crop Top Digital Sewing Pattern

The Zou Crop Top PDF Sewing Pattern is a mid-waist, boxy, wide boat-neck, crop top with princess seams (great for color-blocking) plus contrast button placket and cuffs.

If you're looking for MORE, there are a few optional pieces you can add to the crop top:

  • "elephant ear" frills
  • appliqué puffed eyes
  • pocket trunk (regular or mini-sized!) that attaches to culottes
  • little puff crown that attaches to right shoulder seam
  • The Super Bubble Culottes Digital Sewing Pattern

The Super Bubble Culottes are ultra-gathered, fully-lined, bubble shorts with an elastic waistband.

Additional options to the culottes include:

  • snap on tail

  • little ties which attach (or not! your choice!) to the Zou Crop Top!

*PLEASE NOTE THIS LISTING IS NOT FOR A FINISHED GARMENT. THIS IS A DIGITAL SEWING PATTERN WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN FINISHED GARMENT (for personal use only).

SEWING DIFFICULTY: INTERMEDIATE (or a confident beginner ready for a fun challenge)

fabric recommendations

-MAIN AND CONTRAST FABRICS: Light to medium weight woven fabric: shirting, linen, lawn, quilting cotton, double gauze, broadcloth, calico, poplin, lightweight denim, chambray, fine whale corduroy, silk duponi, brocade.

-LINING: lightweight woven fabrics

SOME TECHNIQUES INCLUDE (but are not exclusive to): sewing little puff details, ease-stitching, bias bound neckline, button plackets, patch style trunk pocket (in regular or mini), and lined shorts.

notions + supplies

-INTERFACING: Lightweight or mid weight fusible interfacing works best. This provides the placket to be crisp and the buttonholes to have necessary reinforcement.

-BUTTONS or PLASTIC SNAPS: -4 non-shank buttons 1/2”-5/8” in diameter (or plastic snaps with setting pliers and awl)

-BATTING: a small amount of loose polyfil batting for crown.

-ELASTIC: 2cm (3/4”) elastic as long as your waist measurement (natural waist measurement is the circumference around the belly button) minus 1.3cm (1/2”)  Make sure the elastic is stretchy enough to come up over the hips to sit just below the waist.

-HAND SEWN SNAP for tail: whichever color you need, size 3/0

File Size: 13MB

All of my patterns are packaged and sent in a zipped (compressed) folder which contains separate files for the following:

  • the PDF Pattern file
  • the "READ FIRST" instructions which are the detailed instructions of the pattern
  • a black and white version of just the sewing tutorial for those who like to print out instructions

Some patterns also include a separate file for the face template patterns as well as an overview image of the templates.

This allows you to access only the information you require at any given step of the process without having a massive file open.  To access the pattern after you receive them, right click on the zipped folder icon and instead of clicking "open", click "extract all" and then chose the folder you would like the files to be saved.
