💀Halloween "Villain" Cosplay part II🎃

VILLAIN PART II. It’s my turn!!!🥰 I sew for myself (to blog) so infrequently I think it’s been about 6 years😳!!! I tend to have lots of ambition to make myself SHINee handmades but I always prioritize myself last so it never gets done in time🥲. So I had decided on Azriella’s neon green villain plague doctor outfit, but I couldn’t help but be compelled to make the other villain outfit too! However I’m always pressed for time around Halloween, so I figured I would make only a few parts of the outfit and use other things from my closet for the rest!

The inspiration oufit looked like this:

Making the Outfit

Part I: the jacket

It was daunting thinking about taking on this jacket and finding the right fabric in the right color was a toilsome task; it was impossible! I ended up getting this green rayon fabric that was so far from the right weight but that olivey sage color was just nowhere to be found at the time! To give it a sheen and to make it a bit more waterproof for the Oregon weather, I fused clear vinyl to the pieces. Originally I tried painting it with a water-based polyurethane but it was coming out hella splochy so I had to go to plan b. It also didn’t work out too hot, but it faired better than the clear-painted coat. For the lining, I found this sweatshirt fleece at Joann’s but it wasn’t olive enough so I dyed it for a short time in some black RIT dye (for poly blends) and it got it just the little bit darker that I needed.

I took my Senpai Bomber Jacket and sized it up to me-sized (which, when I perfect it, I might turn into a pattern!) and then altered the placket to include a zipper instead of snaps. I also had a lot of extra details to figure out. The padded skeleton appliques really scared me, not gonna lie! I traced the pieces of his and then sized them to fit my jacket and then interfaced them and appliqued them on and finally stuffy them with poly batting. The little details like the added zip sleeve pocket and the zip up vest detail on the back were much easier to tackle and I think they came out pretty well!

Part II: the gloves, the mesh shirt, + the hat

I am not a fan of making gusseted gloves. They are one of the biggest pains in the ass to make but there isn’t a choice when you need them to look a specific way! I used a free glove pattern and heavily altered it, and made them in a black stretch vinyl. But since that would be a little flimsy on its own, I used knit interfacing and added a side zip like Key’s had. After that, I made some skeletal cuttouts with my cricut cutter and black dots! They look soooo cool!! I have worn them so much!

Key wears a mesh shirt under his t-shirt and so I drafted and made a quick mesh shirt with fabric that I think is more commonly used for bottle holders on backpacks, lol. I’m not used to the feeling of mesh against my skin but it’s ok for what it is!

Last but not least, I made the little catboy hat and changed the name to “Locketgirl” which I love. I honestly am thinking of rebranding as Locketgirl since: a.) it sounds cool. b.) it is a great reference to sewing as well as c.) is a reference to Key’s fans which are called Lockets! I took a pattern I found somewhere for a basic beanie and I added some little cat ears to the sides along with the label I made and it really came out so cute!

The Photoshoot

I sincerely dislike taking pictures of myself. I’m so used to taking pictures of the girls that I rarely think of what angles look good on me. I also am not super keen on been active on social media. Part of that is because I am very much an introvert and part of it is because I try to not be one of those moms that are on their phone more than they are present with their children. Especially as they get older, I worry more and more about not wasting time that I have with them not hanging out with them or being there for them emotionally or not making enough memories with outings and little every day magic moments. I tend to compare myself harshly to other people so being on social media is really a big drain for me, which is why you don’t ever see me on Facebook, infrequently see me on Instagram, and sometimes see me on Twitter. So the long and short of it is that I’m not well-versed at modeling!😅

We had taken them near the train tracks by Water Ave. and a lot of them did not look all that great, but I managed to get a few useable ones!

I also got some good cell phone candid shots of Azriella and me in our outfits!

And that’s about it! I still have to take new pics of Sephira’s outfit for Halloween which was AMAZING but I shot in full sunlight and it’s just not the vibe for the costume! I really can’t wait to share it and Akira’s outfit with you!!!!
