🎄Xmas Eve Hanbok!
For Christmas Eve this year, we decided on a Korean Hanbok theme! The girls got to pick the fabrics they wanted: elephants for Akira (of course); for Azriella, a beautiful African print from House of Mami Wata (I am in no way sponsored by them, but if you haven’t checked them out, you really need to… right now!), and for Sephira, now also known as ‘lil shawol’ because she’s a massive SHINee fan like her Mamma and Daddy, she picked a look inspired by Taemin’s recent Music Video: IDEA.
The Process
I was really hoping to find a pattern somewhere that had the jeogori (jacket) separate from the skirt in kid sizes but in the end, I drafted it all myself! They’re far from perfect but at least I know what to improve on in the future!
As for fabrics, I had the hardest time acquiring fabric since, because of Covid, I had to shop online. UGH! First, I ordered fabric that claimed it was black and white, and when it came in, it was BROWN and white, at the same time I ordered this ‘magenta’ stretch velvet fabric from Amazon that never came at all! After a month, I gave up and ordered the same fabric from a different seller and when it came in, the color was sooooooooo different from the product listing! It was candy pink. Sigh*. So, I chanced it, bought some purple synthetic dye, and dipped the fabric in it for, I kid you not, 15 seconds or less, quickly pulled it out and rinsed it, and would you believe it came out the EXACT COLOR I NEEDED!!! Oh, I was so happy! I never have luck dying fabric!
To replace the fabric that was supposed to be black and white, I ended up designing a custom fabric design and ordered it on Spoonflower. It didn’t come out as detailed as I might have hoped but it looked really pretty and a bit similar to the overall look that Taemin had… if his were, perhaps, a hanbok instead😂.
I did, however, really luck out with Azriella’s fabric from House Of Mami Wata and Akira’s elephant fabric! Azriella’s in particular was even better than the listing and the wrong side of the fabric was just beautiful and saturated with the print as the right side! I will definitely be shopping with them again!
The girls were pretty chilly taking these pictures outside! They kept themselves warm by huddling together, warming each other’s hands, and breaking into dance moves from the IDEA Music Video… they were SO cute!
YAY! You're here! I'm so happy! I'm Kat! Mom, shawol, and pattern designer, this is the place where I share all of my sewing projects, chibi cosplay fashion, and DIY/tutorials! Everything around here is action-packed with color, silliness, and tons of kawaii stuff!
