Tsum Tsum Dumbo Birthday outfit!
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I’ve been in the process massively renovating my sewing room over the past month! It’s been completely transformed; I can’t wait to share it with you all!!! In the meantime, I did pick up a few sewing projects that I’m working on this month, one of them being this birthday outfit!
I thought I might play it frugal and just pick something cute from my stash to make her a birthday dress, but that conversation went a little something like this:
Me: What do you want your birthday outfit to look like this year, sweetie?
A: Uhhh ELEPHANTS no- DUMBO!
Me: Hmmm…. What about this fabric?
A: [looks blankly at it then back at me] It doesn’t haven’t elephants on it 😶.
Me: 😅 Okay Wow honey… We’ll make you a Dumbo shirt
A: Yeah! And it’s gonna have a trunk (referring to this elephant shirt) and…
So, yes, in the end, elephants will always win!
I thought doing gray was less festive for a birthday color so we decided to do more of a Tsum Tsum style Dumbo instead. I happen to find proper neoprene (not scuba knit which has much drape to it and is not as dense) in baby blue on Amazon and, surprisingly, it came in super quick! I’ve terrible success ordering fabric online the past year with social distancing so this was a welcomed surprise to have it in less than a week!
I sized up the pink one from a few years ago but I think I might have made it too wide so I suppose it’ll fit for a while! I still think it was cute to make again. Honestly, I’m a bit shocked that, up till now, making this elephant shirt again hadn’t come up! I have the most fun manipulating the sleeves into those big Dumbo ears and the trunk is always such a funny and playful feature for her! It’s totally her favorite part since she can play with it, put it to her own nose, pretend it’s drinking water…
The day I made the shirt, the entire time, she would come and stand over my shoulder and ask if it was done yet and if she could wear it. The two days it hung in the closet before taking pictures included endless begging, whining, moaning, and cute pouty faces. I finally caved in and said, “Do you want to go take those pictures now?” and she was ecstatic! And then she wore it for the next two days until the day before her birthday when she got it dirty 🤦🏻♀️. This is why we don’t wear things we make before pictures! I’ve been burned before in the past! So we had to wash it before she even got to her birthday! That was a first for us!
Anywho, I just can’t believe this little one is one year older! She’s grown so much in the past year in every single way. I’m just so proud of her and truly enjoy this adorable little human immensely!
That’s all for today! I’ll be back more this month for a special Project Run & Play tour!!!
