Helium x Life on Mars

This is something I have been wanting to do for 7 years now. Wow. I can't believe it took that long to get around to making this outfit but now that it's done, not only was it worth the wait but, I sincerely couldn't imagine it any other way!

As she got older, she naturally gained new interests but Bowie and Man Man, and SHINee have always stayed at the forefront in her heart. She said she wanted to do Life on Mars for Easter and I told her how I was planning on doing a Helium (from Key's Bad Love album) x Life on Mars crossover. It was an obvious collaboration considering Key himself mentioned how this album was heavily influenced by his long-time admiration of David Bowie😱🤯This project is so important to me and to Sephira, as it’s that something I've been planning for almost a decade! I truly hope you enjoy hearing all about the process! HAPPY SHINee DAY!!!!

White + Holographic Easter!

Another Easter passed during the pandemic! Last year was a really bizarre one for everyone, us included, but after a year of self-quarantining, we learned how to make the best of things! I wanted to do something colorful but in a different way than I’d done in the past. Originally, the plan was holographic vinyl and neon elastic cording and white but I found it impossible to find colorful cording that wasn’t super skinny (and that was just not the look I was going for!). So I ended up having to quickly change up some of my plans!

🎄Xmas Eve Hanbok!

For Christmas Eve this year, we decided on a Korean Hanbok theme! The girls got to pick the fabrics they wanted: elephants for Akira (of course); for Azriella, a beautiful African print from House of Mami Wata (I am in no way sponsored by them, but if you haven’t checked them out, you really need to… right now!), and for Sephira, now also known as ‘lil shawol’ because she’s a massive SHINee fan like her Mamma and Daddy, she picked a look inspired by Taemin’s recent Music Video: IDEA.

🌈Pattern Release! 👽 The Touka Sweater + FREE PATTERN: Drawstring Charms!

Sometimes, amazing patterns stay in the vaults for way too long. I drafted the first version of the Touka Sweater in October 2017 for Halloween sweaters for my kiddos. It quickly became my go-to pattern for sweater-making because it was so quick and so easy. I used it for almost every holiday at least once since then! I was constantly putting other newer patterns ahead of the Touka until a few months ago when I declared the time was neigh! I must turn the Touka Sweater I’d loved for so long into a real-life pattern!

Week 2: 🍦 Ice Cream & Sundays! 🎀

This week, the challenge was to design and create something entirely from your preexisting stash of fabrics! I wanted to make some really sweet, super playful and girly looks! The fashion I like to make my kiddos is reflective of their bubbly and silly personalities: bright, diverse, and, most importantly, with a sense of humor. So for my 4 year old, I wanted to make something that I knew she would love: 🍦Ice Cream🍦! To pair up with the chartreuse neoprene, I wanted the ice cream part to be bubblegum pink. I looked to my stash for a print that would complement those two colors and chose a pink floral (as well as a matching pinkish red polka-dot cotton fabric) for an outfit for my 6-year-old. "Where are these girls (in these dresses) going?" Brunch! These two little ladies are getting all dressed up for a Sunday afternoon in downtown Portland, in one of the many hipster neighborhoods, the Hawthorne district, enjoying some eats and stopping at a few shops along the way! So that's why I decided to call this week: Ice Cream and Sundays (pun intended! 😊)

Project Run & Play! Week 1: 🎪Circus🎪

Today is a super special day.

As soon as I started Sew Chibi 6 years ago, I followed Project Run & Play. It was the most integral part of socializing among the sewing community back then and without it, I doubt I would have met and become close with so many of my favorite bloggers. It's been a forever dream to be asked to be a designer so this, all of this, fills me with so much emotion and drives me to do every single thing I can do to give you all a good show, full of surprises throughout the competition (hopefully throughout the competition 😉). So, without further ado, I present my Circus Week Collection entitled "Mon Cirque des Petites Filles" (my circus of little girls).

Creating a Little Fashion Dream: 🌈Rainbows, Unicorns🦄 + BOWIE⚡!

It doesn't seem that long ago that I made a rainbow inspired 5th birthday outfit, and, as irony would have it, I have done it yet again! That was the challenge: how to make an equally beautiful rainbow-inspired outfit without being repetitive. These girls are so unique; they truly have their own styles and personalities! Sephira is a free spirit that is candid with pretty much everything! I tried hard to tie in all the things she wanted (she frequently wants to be at least seven different things all at once) and keep it cohesive.

The Magnificent Vivie! Piecing tutorial and Blaverry Pattern Review!

The Vivie Dress PDF Pattern by Blaverry.  The Vivie was actually the first Blaverry pattern I ever bought!  I was searching frantically for a first day of school dress to make for Azriella the day before school was set to start!  I found the Vivie, fell in love with the Blaverry patterns on a whole and it is one of my favorite, everyday dresses for Azriella at this age.  It just fits her so well!  I never blogged it because I was busy making her birthday dress then the cavalcade of Halloween sewing so I never got a chance to give it a proper photo-shoot!

KCW TOYS: TANGRAM DRESSES! Spring 16' Part 1 of 2

We go all out for Christmas Eve. I make special dresses for the girls and then pajamas for everyone for Christmas Day! This year the theme was tangrams. I custom designed fabric through Spoonflower and used the Madelyn pattern by Violette Fields Threads as a base for the dress bodice. I used Kona cottons for all of the skirts and collars which I paper pieced and drafted myself. While it was quite a long process to plan out, I couldn't have asked for better results! I figured now would be a good time to share them because it's just in time for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge this Spring: TOYS edition!
