Happy Halloween! This year Azriella and I did the same theme but in different ways and different styles: Villain a Key “Gasoline” cosplay! For hers, we did the neon green moto outfit done in a futuristic plague doctor fashion! Keep reading for a tutorial on how to make a zip up turtleneck too!
Read MoreIn all my days blogging, I think this is the first time I ever planned a second birthday outfit from the start! You see, Sephira really couldn’t decide between the Weekend Boy outfit and the Lemon Girl outfit! The Lemon Girl is the person Onew is trying to save throughout the video and in the end, Lemon Girl is the one who ends up saving him!!! We all thought it was such a badass, empowering moment in the video and Sephira thought that was just so cool.
Read MoreHappy Summer Everyone!!! Earlier this month, Sephira turned 11! I wish these kids would slow down already! This year she asked for the Weekend Boy bellhop look Onew (SHINee’s leader) wore in his recent solo music video “DICE”! The video is so bright and colorful and fun and weird and it just makes you smile! Keep reading for more all about the outfit!
Read MoreThis year marked the end of both middle school for Azriella and elementary school for Sephira! There was event after event for all three of the girls and sooooooo much stuff happening around here that I have been so far behind keeping up with it all and sharing it in a timely manner! I did manage to make two, last-minute things for my two celebrating girlies!
Read MoreThis year marks my 10th year blogging at Sew Chibi Designs!!! 🥳🥳🥳 I don’t think I could have ever imagined all the things I would create, the friendships I would make, and the way I developed my not only my sewing skills but my photography, photo editing, pattern drafting, graphics making, sewing tutorial e-booking from non-existent to things I’m really proud of!!!
I already went into major detail about both Azriella’s outfit and Sephira’s outfit, so, for this post, I’m going to focus on Akira’s outfit and the group shots I got of them at the Rose Garden.
Read MoreAnother Easter passed during the pandemic! Last year was a really bizarre one for everyone, us included, but after a year of self-quarantining, we learned how to make the best of things! I wanted to do something colorful but in a different way than I’d done in the past. Originally, the plan was holographic vinyl and neon elastic cording and white but I found it impossible to find colorful cording that wasn’t super skinny (and that was just not the look I was going for!). So I ended up having to quickly change up some of my plans!
Read MoreSometimes, amazing patterns stay in the vaults for way too long. I drafted the first version of the Touka Sweater in October 2017 for Halloween sweaters for my kiddos. It quickly became my go-to pattern for sweater-making because it was so quick and so easy. I used it for almost every holiday at least once since then! I was constantly putting other newer patterns ahead of the Touka until a few months ago when I declared the time was neigh! I must turn the Touka Sweater I’d loved for so long into a real-life pattern!

Read MoreI can't think of a better way to celebrate the season than with a new twirly dress! When Olga invited me to be a part of her fantastic blog tour, I was super giddy! I've been smitten with the Polina Dress since I first saw it and when we went through all of the Coffee + Thread dress options, my little girl feel in looove with the Polina pattern as well! So, to tie the whole look together, I made a pair of Wild and Free Lounge Pants and a few, fun accessories , and the result was nothing short of magical!
Read MoreIt's one of my FAVORITE times of the year! HALLOWEEN!! While I am in the middle of making all the things for the kiddos, I thought it'd be quite festive to do a list of my favorite cosplay/dress-up posts of all time! So! Let's get STARTED and check out my spooky, top 13 dress-up posts ever!!
Read MoreThe French macarons are some of the most beautiful desserts around and we love indulging in them! I had had the notion for a while that it would be so sweet (ha!) to make a trio of delectable dresses someday. When springtime came around, I went to my party dress pattern stash and found the Caroline Dress! I knew I'd have to do a generous amount of planning and redrafting but it but soooo worth it in the end!
Read MoreAhh the first day of school. I am lucky enough, I mean, the girls are lucky enough 😉 to have the freedom of wearing what they want to school so I always make Azy a dress. Well, this year was extra special. Because, this year, I picked out the perfect first day of school dress pattern: the Eleena Dress by Olga of Coffee + Thread, AND (for the first time ever) I had two lovely ladies to sew first day of school dresses for! Which also meant I needed to sew up another Elm poncho (by petite a petite + family) as well!
Read MoreSound and Vision is by far my favorite David Bowie song. If you're unfamiliar with it, the lyrics are basically: "Blue, Blue, electric blue, that's the color of my room where I will live..." I've always loved it because just the thought of having this ultra bright, blue room where I could just sit in it, and be blissfully silent, bursting with creative visions, excites me...and calms me all at the same time. It speaks to my core as an artist and fills me up. I could listen to it aaaaallll day long! And I knew straight away that had to realize it into a dress for me.
Read MoreWe go all out for Christmas Eve. I make special dresses for the girls and then pajamas for everyone for Christmas Day! This year the theme was tangrams. I custom designed fabric through Spoonflower and used the Madelyn pattern by Violette Fields Threads as a base for the dress bodice. I used Kona cottons for all of the skirts and collars which I paper pieced and drafted myself. While it was quite a long process to plan out, I couldn't have asked for better results! I figured now would be a good time to share them because it's just in time for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge this Spring: TOYS edition!
Read MoreAre you all familiar with the Secret of Kells? It's Irish animation illustrated by Tomme Moore and it's truly beautiful. The character and scenery drawings are so vivid yet sooth your imagination as the scenes seem to look like a story in motion. The textures, the character arcs, the story lines are all so captivating and absolutely inspiring. The most recent film released was called Song of the Sea and is about a little boy and girl and the struggles they go through as they are come to grips with living without a mother, sibling animosity and the realization of Saoirse's very special power of turning into a magical seal, a selkie, when she dons her mothers cape.
Azriella was mesmerized... enchanted, even. I found a local fabric store that sells tons of variations of organza, so I sought out duo-toned hues that reminded me of the ocean images from the film.
Read MoreI don't know about your kidlings, but as of recent, mine have become quite taken with Octonauts! The show is basically kawaii aquatic adventurers who go around saving the sea creatures that fall into peril around them! Of them, Azriella quickly requested to be Tweak the Bunny and shortly afterward Sephira chimed in that she wanted to be the "pink Vegimal" which she later learned was named "Codish". I decided that since Azriella was a bunny, that the little carrot Vegimal, named "Barrot" would be perfect for her!
Read MoreIt’s the 25th!!! So you know what that means: SEW GEEKY! This month’s theme is Epic Fantasy inspired. Think Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, or really anything that would conjure up visions of enchantment.
