Hiya, all!  I'm just bringing home my "Happy Hunger Games" post I did for Rae Gun Ramblings blog!  ^_^  Enjoy!

Good Morning Rae Gun readers!  I'm Kat from Sew Chibi, and I am super pumped to be here today for this series!  We are pretty huge Hunger Games fans in our house! There were so many choices of gorgeous outfits to choice from so honing in on one was a bit of a challenge!

I was toying around with the idea of doing something extravagant like the black feather dress or this half sleeve half cape quilted coat from the new unreleased Hunger Games.  But, I figured it would be more practical to make something that could be worn over and over again.

In the end, I chose to do the outfit that Katniss wears in the Catching Fire when she and Peeta go to District 11 and give their poignant speech.

The look was simple enough and I had just the patterns in mind to use.

I used the {affiliate linkMini Penny Pinafore by Kitschy Coo for the tunic and the {affiliate link}  Hosh pants, newly re-released, by Lou Bee Clothing.

I altered the pinafore pattern by redrafting the front center panel to include an off-centered zipper that is half exposed.  Then, since I couldn't find blue fur on my fabric run, I chose to improvise with blue stretch velvet, using fusible fleece to plump it up a bit. Also, I measured around the full length of the neckline, adding in seam allowance, and made it have more of a rounded Neru collar.

The arm finishings didn't necessarily come out as clean as I would have wanted per sa.  I was on the fence whether or not I should tuck the bindings under or leave them exposed.  I chose to leave them exposed so that it mimicked Katniss' tunic detailing.

The pants were simple black bottom-weight sateen.  I added in a strip of black pleather to the middle of the pant leg bottoms, just like Katniss' pants.

All in all, I really like the way it came together!  Azriella tried to be serious for the shoot but her sister was pulling funny faces in the window and making her laugh!

Most of the the shoots ended up looking like this instead!

Well, that's it for me!  I hope you enjoyed my little snippet on this awesome Hunger Games tour!  Thanks again Marissa for having me!  Be sure to stop by Sew Chibi or Sew Geeky to check out what I'm up to!

many many smooches!

Kat
