of pirates and pettiskirts

Before I spotted the Project Run & Play Auditions, I was actually waist deep in making this pettiskirt.  A look for little chibis who don't always want to be so pink and princess-y.

It's a little edgy: the whole underlayer is black, and the primary colors suit those who'd rather swash-buckle all ye land lubbers than preside over them.

Fiercely colorful (of course!), but way more hip than just a fluffy white cloud of a skirt  (don't get me wrong, cloudy skirts get love too in our house!). I just adore those fun Japanese fabrics with their surfing samurai octopi, bears in dolphin suits, sno-cones, and

onigiri

!  I am a complete sucker for this style!

Surf ninja, in all it's wacky glory!

Ruffle fluff piled high!

It will be up for sale in my Etsy shop in an hour.  Don't you just love a good pettiskirt?!  I gotta tell ya, the best part of making one is attaching that last bit of ruffle to your last tireless tier!  Oh, it never feels so good to backstitch, pick up your presser foot and snip your thread!  See, I don't make every pettiskirt in the same order:  sometimes I feel like doing one whole layer and then attach that (actually, come to think of it I do do it that way when I'm working with directional prints so that I don't accidentally attach the bottom layer to the front top tier!), other times I work my way down, and sometimes I work my way up from the bottom.  The end result is the same.  And boy is it satisfying to sit back and ogle some of that insane handiwork!

I'd like to add that this is purely a sharing what I'm up to post, and am not trying to advertise for my shop.  Merely giving out some eye candy :-)

 So whatdaya think?!!
